Been a loyal customer for a few years but really upset by how we were made to feel today. Loyalty means nothing and we were very hurt by the staff... read more and management treatment of us and my elderly mother today. Will not be going back. As soon as a bulk booking comes through loyalty goes out of the window. Felt very low today and this has made me worse .

Having to work away from home during a pandemic is hardly anyone’s cup of tea. Factor that into decent accommodation being even harder to come by than now a 2kg... read more bag of flour and you start to realise that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. However having decent accommodation whilst working away can be the difference between a good job and a bad one. Prior to the Mill House we had to spend a week in a well known establishment (won’t say the name, but it rhymes with Gravelodge). Morale was low. So low it was measured in Kelvins. People began putting their hands in deep fat friers just to feel something other than sadness and despair. The Mill House changed all of that. Got a warm welcome immediately upon arrival and being here makes you realise that despite the fact the world is likely to experience the worst global mental and economic depression in human history, there are still things out there to look forward to and that life goes on. Furlough ? How about Fur no.
TL;DR - it’s pretty nice here. More

I am posting this review again now as this hotel is trying to block my original from being kept on the site.
Took my older brother here for a... read more simple lunch the first week of October 2020. Neither of us had ever visited here before. Managed to park at the rear of the property and was initially impressed with the location by the canal to the mill and the fact that in better weather there are benches that could be used by the waters edge for a drink or a bite to eat. Approached the nearest door to the property which was open and appeared to have a sign on it. I went to read the sign to see if this was the preferred entry route from the car park in these Coronavirus aware times. The 'sign' on the door actually appeared as a blank white sheet of paper which I can only assume used to have some sort of notice or instruction on it prior to being bleach by the sun over many months or years. A gentleman appeared and gestured that we could enter by the door in question. I pointed out the blank sign and by this time we were on our way round to the front of the building towards the main entrance. There was another door which had a sign on it which included the words "do not enter" but there was now a lady present who tried to encourage us in through this door. I pointed out that it specifically said not to enter there and we continued to walk round to the main entrance, past a further door which is clearly permanently closed and finally we were in the building. Here we were quickly met by the lady we had seen momentarily on our way in and I asked if it was possible we could have lunch for two. She was very welcoming and pointed into the restaurant and said we could sit anywhere we wished. She was correct as there were no other customers there. At this point I realised that neither she or the gentleman that had spoken to us earlier were wearing face coverings of any kind. We sat down and shortly afterwards were presented with the menus. We were about to be asked for our contact details and as we were the lady apologised for 'the nonsense' and said 'and of course the virus doesn't even come out after 10 o'clock' to which I said I insist they have our details and enquired where their QR code was being displayed. The lady seemed surprised that I was keen to register but did then show me to a code on the wall which I then used. Most places I have been to recently would either already have a code available on the table or would bring a mobile version to you rather than expect their guests to be moving around the premises any more than they absolutely need to. We ordered two drinks and two main courses being bangers and mash, peas and gravy for my brother and chicken and ham pie, chips and peas for myself. The food took about 40 minutes to arrive during which I did check out the reviews on Tripadvisor which mentioned that the food could take some time but it would be fresh and good. When ours arrived, my brothers looked okay and he ate it. Mine didn't look too good. The pie was mainly a pile of broken pastry under which I found some very dry chicken and a few other pieces of filling. The chips were warm and soggy, like they had perhaps been heated up from frozen but on an oven that was not hot enough. My peas were fine. My brother finished his meal and I ate what I could. I was hungry and by now it was too late to get anything from another venue. I paid and we left. During our time in the building which I would estimate at about 75 minutes we saw three or four staff but no residents or other customers. At no time did we see anyone wearing any sort of face covering. I do not think this venue is taking the Coronavirus situation at all seriously, certainly not at lunchtime with non-resident diners. This alone would be enough to prevent me from returning while the pandemic persists but the attitude of the staff along with the very poor quality of a simple dish after such a long wait is really not something I ever wish to repeat.

We found a deal to stay at the Mill House Hotel on Ebay of all places. Upon arrival after a 3 hour drive we parked up, checjed in and ate... read more our picnic sat on a bench overlooking the Mill stream mooring at the back of the hotel.
We had been allocated a ground floor room and as my wife is a late sleeper the staff accommodated our request for a quieter room. We stayed in room 5 which is a lovely family room with a king size and two roomy bunk beds. We loved the room and the view of the church. The church bells chime every hour even throughout the night so close your windows.
The shower in the room was excellent, powerful if required and always with hot water. The staff were great and very friendly.
The best thing about the Mill House was the breakfast. There were many non-resident groups of families queueing for the breakfast but the hotel reserved tables for guests do we were immediately seated. The quality of the food was superb.
Our impression of the hotel was it was quintessentially English from a time gone by in the best sense. The local area was really great as well and completely different to our expectations. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Mill House Hotel

Read and heard good things about the hotel so this morning we decided to have breakfast there and was not dissapointed.
The full English comes in 3 sizes, Small... read more (£6), Medium (£7) and large(£8.50) and the large was exactly that.
It was really enjoyable and good value, I must admit I struggled with the large.
The breakfast menu also had bubble and steak and kippers. On offer.
It's diffently worth a visit.
I understand they do Sunday lunches so that's our next visit.
